Think you are having a bad day?

Think you are having a bad day?

Fire authorities in California found a corpse in a burned-out section of forest while assessing the damage done by a forest fire. The deceased male was dressed in a full wet suit, complete with scuba tanks on his back, flippers, and face mask.

A postmortem test revealed that the man died not from burns, but from massive internal injuries. Dental records provided a positive identification. Investigators then set about to determine how a fully clothed diver ended up in the middle of a forest fire.

It was revealed that on the day of the fire, the man went diving off the coast, some 20 miles from the forest. The fire fighters, seeking to control the fire as quickly as possible, had called in a fleet of helicopters with very large dip buckets. Water was dipped from the ocean and emptied at the site of the forest fire.

You guessed it. One minute our diver was making like Flipper in the Pacific, the next, he was doing the breast stroke in a fire dip bucket 300 feet in the air.

Some days it just doesn’t pay to get out of bed. but keep reading….

Kingdom of Loathing – An adventurer am I (again)

29 07 2008

A couple of years ago I was practically addicted to a browser-based (ie you play it via internet explorer / firefox etc) massive multiplayer online role playing game MMORPG.  Normally this sort of thing isn’t my “bag”, but this is different.  It manages to blend a “Lord of the Rings” style epic quest with Monty Python meets South Park style humour.

The game looks amazingly basic, with stick figure graphics and a selection based control system.  But, the game is absolute magic and fantastically addictive.  The good news is you’re limited to how much you can play in one day – so no WoW sadness.  The other good news is its completely free.  Check it out:

If you fancy setting up a clan with me, let me know.   I’m currently a level 13 Seal-Clubber.  :p

Luton Town about to exit administration

29 07 2008

According to the BBC, the Football League have approved LTFC’s application for their “Golden Share” (which is essentially the pass that lets them play professional football).  This means that the club are now free to exit administration – something which is expected to happen on, or around 31st July.  From that point on we will be free to start making moves in the transfer market (assuming we have the wage bill down below the salary cap imposed by the football league.)

Hancock!

28 07 2008

HancockI finally got to see this Will Smith blockbuster last night and I was seriously impressed.  Although there’s another super-hero flick getting all the press at the moment, I have to say that this picture has quickly become one of my favourites.  Light-hearted throughout, the action was amusing and the story interesting.  I think Smith overdid the moody look at times, but all that is irrelevant.  The “Your head up his ass” scene in the prison was well worth the £7.50 entrance fee alone and I’m still giggling to myself now.  I rate is a solid 4/5 and highly recomend you see it.

The genius of it says more than my words could ever do.  Watch, share, learn, experience:

Killzone 2

23 07 2008

I think I just found the absolute reason why I need to buy a Playstation 3.  For the last couple of months I have been absolutely hammering my PS2 with a pre-owned copy of Killzone that I picked up for £5 at my local game (I noticed it has gone up to £10 pre-owned when I was in there on Monday).  I love the game and even though I have no online capability for my Playstation, I’ve enjoyed hours upon hours of play.

Now, I see the PS3 is getting a new version, and if this video is anything to go by, it will be amazing.  I guess I’m going to have to be a very good boy and hope Santa Claus brings me one for Christmas.

Rallying Cry Update

22 07 2008

Rallying Cry is back up and running over at VSSystem.com.  The article has been missing for the last couple of weeks due to a series of unfortunate events.  Firstly an article I submitted was ultimately declined on the basis that the featured blog contained offensive language.  So please take this as a warning – if you want to have your blog featured on Vssystem.com, make sure the language and content is of a PG friendly nature.  After that, the online media manager was on vacation and then had a stay in hospital.  Needless to say, the fates conspired to keep Rallying Cry quiet.

Check out the latest edition featuring post World Championship coverage.

Luton Town have appeal rejected

16 07 2008

Yesterday, the FA, in their infinite wisdom, dismissed the appeal of Luton Town against the 10 point deduction and the £50,000 fine levied against the club due to financial irregularities.

Celeb Air takes off

14 07 2008

There’s another (sigh) reality TV show about to go into production, but this one is a little different.  It’s based around the airline I work for.  Here’s the spiel from ITV:

This autumn, ITV2 will be taking to the skies with the brand new show, CelebAir – with a real plane, flying to real places, staffed by real celebrities! In this new eight-part series, 10 celebrities will take on a range of jobs on the ground and in the air to battle it out ultimately to become CelebAir’s star employee and win thousands of pounds for the charity of their choice.

Overseeing the action and presenting the show will be Angellica Bell, who is familiar to a whole generation of people from her time as presenter at CBBC, and who is no stranger to flying, having previously worked on the travel series Departure Lounge.Angellica says about hosting the show: “I am very excited to be a part of CelebAir. It will be great fun to watch as the celebrities are put under pressure and taken out of their comfort zone. Let’s see how they handle it!”

Functioning as a regular airline, members of the public can book to fly with CelebAir to a host of glamorous locations as the celebrity crew take on roles from check-in clerks to air stewards – and they could be anyone from a famous sportsman to a pop star.

Cruising at 35 000 ft, viewers will see all the tensions and frustrations as the celebrity crew dish out the pretzels and pour out the bubbly.

CelebAir will push our celebrities to their limits – one day they will be dealing with a hell-raising hen party coming back from a night in Malaga, and the next they will have to cope with a delayed flight full of families heading out to Alicante.

At every stage of the journey the famous faces will be judged and rated by their own passengers, and each week the worst performing celebrity gets given the boot.

However, before any of the famous faces are allowed to start their new jobs, they will have to undertake a rigorous six week training programme run by Monarch, the airline involved in the show, and they will be required to adhere to Monarch’s tough standards whilst working for CelebAir.

This morning, as I pulled into work, there were half a dozen TV types waiting around with clip-boards a pens, eagerly awaiting the arrival of the ten.  As a few Mercedes pulled up we were trying to identify who the “stars” were.  We got a great look at one guy using a pair of binoculars, but despite getting a clear view of him for several minutes, I have absolutely no clue who he was.  I imagine it will be the usual mix with the odd pretty face thrown in.  I hope to god Paul Dennan isn’t one of them.
