Feeling good – new Golden Age formats

3 07 2008

No, not Bring Your own Team – the format announced as the next Marquee event.  Our local gaming club – Fantasy Wargames in Luton (check my blogroll for the link) is looking to host a golden age event later this month.  We’ve been debating about potential formats, rather than just straight GA and we’ve come up with a couple of really interesting allternate formats. . .

Wife Swap

Basically the premise of this is that every player brings their own Golden Age constructed deck to the event.  All the decks are then put into a hat and each player is randomly assigned a deck to play with in the event.  You could end up with your own deck, but then again you probably wont.  So, what’s to stop me building a crap deck to sabbotage the opposition I hear you say!  Well the prize structure is awarded to the players and to the decks.  So the owner of the top placed deck gets prizes.  Build the best deck you can, and even if you bomb out, you could still scoop some swag.

The other format, and the current favourite is:

Good vs Evil – Team

This requires pre-registration as each player is assigned an alliegance – Good or Evil.  You must build your deck based on this alliegance.  In other words, if you’re good, you build a deck with good guys.  If you’re bad, you build it with the bad guys.  In the event itself, the pairings are done so you always have Good v Evil.  The winning player gets swag and the overall winning team (good or evil) also gets loot.

I like the sound of both of these and can’t wait to try them out.  Any thoughts?  Comments?
